I hope everyone in America sees this AP story posted yesterday by CBS Los Angeles:
While the article focuses on one foreign celebrity, here’s a particularly poignant passage:
“The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services said in a statement that Fabio was one of more than 6,000 people from more than 140 countries who took the Oath of Allegiance together at the Los Angeles Convention Center.”
Yes, our system can work. 6,000 people came to America, from 140 countries!! Each one decided that this is the place they want to live, pledged their allegiance to our country, and became naturalized citizens! It works. These 6,000 people prove it. It is indeed possible to come to America and become a citizen legally.
The immigration problems we have here in the U.S. center around people who come here and want all the benefits and privileges that we citizens enjoy, but choose not to pledge their allegiance. Even refugees or people who come here because they feel they don’t have a choice, they too can do it right.
Listen, we are a nation of immigrants. We need people from all corners of the world. I hope any citizen of the world sees this and feels encouraged. I hope citizens of the world choose to come here and make our country better.
Note: here is some additional information about the Naturalization Oath of Allegiance to the U.S. pledged by these 6,000 new citizens.
