Tim Russert was the best, the real deal

Friday, June 13th, 2008

My favorite TV news man died today. Tim Russert was the NBC Washington bureau chief, and for the past 17 years, moderator of Meet The Press. Russert was at the NBC studios in Washington this morning when he collapsed from a heart attack, what his doctor called a “sudden coronary thrombosis”. He died immediately.
When it [...]

Osgood & Harvey, a great daily news combo

Friday, March 7th, 2008

If you read my blog regularly, you know that I’m a self-proclaimed news junkie. As such, I don’t like listening to music on the way to work in the morning. I much prefer to listen to a good news program.
Well, I’ve been at my current job at St. Norbert College for four years now, and [...]

didn’t like Jordin Sparks

Monday, February 4th, 2008

Jordin Sparks sang the Star Spangled Banner at Super Bowl XLII yesterday. Unlike most of the comments I’ve heard, I just didn’t like it.
Over the years, tens of thousands of great songs have been written and arranged and re-arranged and covered by artists from all styles and backgrounds. Many songs sound great with new arrangements. [...]

gotta catch John Caparulo

Wednesday, November 21st, 2007

There are a number of comedians who I consider quite funny. These are the ones who are worthy of my time to set the recorder, and more importantly, worthy of space on my DVR. That list hasn’t changed much in recent years. But I just caught John Caparulo on Blue Collar Comedy: The Next Generation [...]

CNN Video: gotta have it

Wednesday, August 8th, 2007

Last year, I wrote in this blog about CNN Pipeline, an online news service supported by paid subscriptions. It’s been a godsend! Well, the folks at CNN have determined that their subscriber base is not large enough to continue the service. So, it’s gone.
However, in its place is CNN Video. This is even better. Like [...]

finally, some great local news

Monday, February 12th, 2007

If you haven’t seen it yet, you’ve got to check out WFRV.com. This is our local CBS affilliate (owned by CBS) in northeast Wisconsin, and their web site was recently rebuilt. They’ve done a fantastic job of making a site that is lean and loads fast. Their inclusion of video clips from their news casts [...]

screw the white guy

Tuesday, June 6th, 2006

Aw geez. Now what? Albinos are complaining about The Da Vinci Code. The antagonist of the book is an albino monk named Silas. And albinos are upset that a villanus stereotype is being furthered not only in the book, but also in the movie.
Remember back when Disney released Alladin in 1992? Arabs complained about the [...]

CNN Pipeline is a great tool for news junkies!

Sunday, May 28th, 2006

I just subscribed to CNN Pipeline. This is one of the greatest new uses of internet technology I’ve seen in a long time. I’m a cable and internet news junkie. I usually have 4-6 Firefox windows open at a time, one of which has 16 tabs, each one being a news site (eWeek.com, Google News, [...]

Paul Harvey is the best!

Thursday, February 23rd, 2006

Do you listen to Paul Harvey? Why not? He’s been on the radio for decades and his unique voice is a pleasure to listen to. When I hear it, it’s like an old friend has come home.
He has two shows that you should catch. He’s been doing “News and Comment” for over 55 years! Yep, [...]

no privacy in Nebraska

Thursday, February 23rd, 2006

Powerball officials said that the winning ticket in the $365 million lottery on Sat 25-Feb-2006 was purchased at the U-Stop, 110 West “O” St. in Lincoln, Nebraska. It was purchased at 3:09pm on Fri 17-Feb-2006. Since they didn’t know the identity of the ticket holder for several days, the store decided to review its surveillance [...]

source of bomb recipe should not matter

Wednesday, October 22nd, 1997

DE PERE, WI — Did you read the October 22 story about the 13-year-old Oregon boy who gave a gift-wrapped pipe bomb and a flower to a classmate for her birthday? Well, the boy was arrested (and later released). But the Associated Press couldn’t just leave the story at that. They had to mention that [...]
