I teach religious education classes to high school sophomores and juniors at Our Lady of Lourdes Parish. Two years ago, our pastor Fr. Tim Shillcox gave each of us teachers a pretty cool gift for Christmas. It’s a dove Christmas tree ornament. I’m the kind of guy that just loves gifts like this. I like [...]

The August 1, 2008 issue of The Compass has an article titled, “Priest shares insights on illegal immigration“, with a subtitle of “Fr. Rueter urges Catholics to look at economic issues behind illegal immigration.”
The overall tone of the article is nice. But unfortunately, it’s yet another example of a Catholic priest trying to appeal to [...]

My favorite TV news man died today. Tim Russert was the NBC Washington bureau chief, and for the past 17 years, moderator of Meet The Press. Russert was at the NBC studios in Washington this morning when he collapsed from a heart attack, what his doctor called a “sudden coronary thrombosis”. He died immediately.
When it [...]

I was just browsing around some old versions of scottcrevier.com on the Way Back Machine, and I came across this entry I posted back on December 12, 1999. It’s interesting to see this old stuff. See, as blogs go, mine took its current format two years ago. But I’ve really been blogging for 10 years [...]

Pope Benedict XVI will make his first papal visit to the United States in 2 weeks. I had been browsing around the web looking for some details on his trip, and I was pleasantly surprised to find that the Knights of Columbus have developed a nice web site with details, photos, maps, ticket information, etc. [...]

It’s been a month since I last wrote, but I’ve been thinking a lot. Quite a lot. And I realize that this blogger has been doing a lot of complaining and ranting lately. I don’t know why. I suppose it’s political season and I’m seeing and hearing a lot that I don’t like. But tonight, [...]

We’re heading into the Christmas weekend, and the Crevier family will be busy again. One day with my sister-in-law in Iron Mountain, MI, Christmas Eve at my Mom’s house in Green Bay, Christmas morning here at home with the girls then over to my Mom’s house again, and the day after Christmas at my aunt [...]

There’s a very interesting story happening in Kaukauna, WI, a small town 16 miles south of here. Manishkumar Patel is accused of causing an abortion by spiking his pregnant girlfriend’s drink with RU-486. He’s being prosecuted in Outagamie County, under Wisconsin’s fetal homicide law. Those are the facts.
So, what do you think so far? If [...]

Today is Priesthood Sunday in the United States. Catholics around the country are offering thanks and recognition to those men who have answered God’s call to serve. I had never heard of Priesthood Sunday until this year (it was only started a few years ago). But I’ll tell you, it’s opened my eyes, and made [...]

Sometimes I find it hard to be proud to be an American. Alright, well, perhaps that’s too strong a statement. But it sure is my initial reaction when I hear about these unbelievable stories of policies here in the United States.
On Wednesday, October 17, the Portland (Maine) School Committee approved a plan to distribute contraceptives [...]

God has no body on earth but yours.
Yours are the only hands with which he can do his work.
Yours are the only feet with which he can go about the world.
Yours are the only eyes through which his compassion can shine forth upon a troubled world.
— St. Teresa of Ávila

I’ve been paying a bit of attention to the Archdiocese of New Orleans since my trip there last month. And I just read an article written by Archbishop Alfred C. Hughes titled “Children need married parents“; his conclusions are just plain wrong.
First, here’s a quote from the article:
“It is now clear from social studies that [...]
