❝
After having walked on land, just last week, that will forever be soaked with
the blood of patriots who sacrificed for this star-spangled banner; after walking
through the house where General Washington planned his strategies, knowing full
well what he was asking his troops to do; after standing at the site where Thomas
Jefferson wrote the bulk of our Declaration of Independence, knowing that it wasn't
perfect so it needed a mechanism for amendments by future generations; after
standing in the very room where that Declaration was hashed out, wordsmithed,
and signed by men who disagreed on specifics but stood together in their purpose
and compromised; today, 243 years later, I'm grateful for all of these things,
for the fortitude and grit of those men and women who created the greatest nation
in the world, and mostly for the grace of God who put me here to carry on these traditions.
